Bronwyn - Our newest face
By Alicia-Rae Light
Fiery fourteen-year-old Bronwyn Wilson, walked into Kitsilano's Calhoun's café on West Broadway, propped her self down on the seat in front of me, stuck her hand out and said, "Hi, I'm Bronwyn, the new face."
Modeling has always been in the back this dirty blonde beauty's mind as something she could see herself doing. "People kept saying that I should give it a try so I sent in some photos and they called me a few days later. It's been three weeks since that day, and here I am."
This time, when I say New Face I mean it, literally. This youngster is yet to take part in her first photo shoot, which is scheduled to happen later on this week with fashion photographer Renat Touchiev. But don't be mistaken; she has a view on life that belongs to someone well beyond the age printed on her birth certificate.
She's left handed, and her friends describe her as interesting and fantastic at acting. Her spare time is spent watching movies with friends, wandering around Granville Island and Fourth Avenue. Aside from that, she rows three times a week, as part of Vancouver's rowing club. During summer she's part of an acting camp put on by Bard on the beach.
For now, Bronwyn is branching out from acting and trying out something new. Although, she describes acting as still being a big part of her life. "When something bad happens, I just sort of act, and get over it. There's a lot of emotional energy that goes into acting and it's a big part of who I am."
Her favorite store is American Eagle, although when she looks through a magazine she doesn't look at the labels. Instead, she looks at the clothes. "There's no one fashion designer, it's whatever catches my eye."
Sign language is something she's always been intrigued by, which she's currently taking online through the University of Michigan. "It's always fascinated me, every time I see people speaking it I thought, I have to know that!"
Admitting to having trouble smiling on demand, having one eye that's a tad bigger than the other and being a little too short for some sorts of modeling at 5'7, Bronwyn knows that being in this industry is going to involve criticism, which is nothing she can't handle. "They can criticize me all they want, even the bad bits are going be the best part because that's what makes you a better person, I'm so excited."
"I'm just trying to balance everything, I've never been this busy before," she says with excitement in her eyes. "It's fun having my little agenda and planning stuff, but it doesn't leave any room for say, not feeling like doing your homework."
She hopes to get into all areas of modeling. "When I get famous, you know like really good, I'd love to do all the Italian and European stuff, the big stuff."
In the coming years Miss Wilson plans on traveling Europe with her mom, becoming a peer counselor at her high school.
Bronwyn has a very realistic view of herself and the modeling industry, "I wouldn't be here if I wasn't good-looking. Nobody's perfect, everyone's got something they have to work on or something that's wrong with them," she says. "There's no marble statue that comes to life in this world. That's what Photoshop is for and that's what make-up is for. I do my part, everyone else does their part and it all comes together beautifully."
With passion in her eyes, and a fire to keep her going, this young lady has no boundaries limiting her success.
