Take a look around the city of Vancouver and one thing becomes crystal clear, our small quaint little city is growing right in front of our eyes. With a new sky rise going up on every corner and large retail chains coming over from Europe, it becomes all the more special when you stumble across a home grown labour of love.

Nestled in between the cafés, restaurants and art galleries along the cobblestone streets of Gastown, lies a fairly new member of the neighbourhood, Nouvelle Nouvelle.

The layout is simple, "we want to allow the clothes to speak for themselves." says Amy Renee York, co-owner of the boutique.

ventured into Nouvelle-Nouvelle together as not just another retail store in Vancouver but rather a new member of this ever expanding community that they were already a part of.

The doors to Nouvelle Nouvelle opened five months ago, and with only two shopping seasons under their belt they are excited about the prospect of displaying more independent designers at the boutique.

"We really wanted to work with and bring forth independent designers that Vancouver doesn't see a lot of" says York.

The importance of being a part of a small community and supporting each other is very integral part of their business. "We gotta help each other out," emphasizes York, "we want to support the small independent labels by really taking a chance on them and committing to them, instead of taking them on as consignment."

The boutique carries a great variety of fashion forward and often eco-conscious merchandise. It's a one stop shop for all the fashionistas in the city that are looking to add to their own personal style with a few unique pieces.

Everything you come across at Nouvelle Nouvelle is the collaboration of the owners and what they love to wear and what they come across in their travels. The process is still fairly new to them but they've managed to bring about a relaxed space that encourages shoppers to take a fun stress free attitude towards shopping.

One thing is for sure there is no shortage of great designers at Nouvelle Nouvelle.
The space is adorned with designs from the likes of Rowena Sartin, Samantha Pleet, and Velvet Leaf along with great Canadian clothing designers Elroy, Elliot and Like Sunday, recycled leather bags from Ora as well as one of a kind jewelry from Violin Halune and Kof.

Bringing together independent designers with a unique vision with an emphasis on support for the community, what a concept.

It's easy to get lost in the big changes happening in our little city, it's important to take a breath and embrace this great little boutique located at 209 Abbott St.
