Mixed Impressions
By Karla Lemus

Kayleen Franklin undoubtedly gives her audience a mixed impression. With a striking blend of Caucasian and Filipino descent, it is no wonder she is already considered among Vancouver's most notable fashion models. At a time where mixed-ethnicity models are becoming increasingly in demand, this seems to be what our cultural city is about. Originally from Kitamat, British Columbia she has ventured out to pursue her intense aspirations of both modeling and fashion design. Currently represented by John Casablancas International, she has found herself working with distinguished photographers like David Fierro, and models like Sisi Wang from Canada's Next Top Model. At her second year of fashion design and technology at Kwantlen College, she prides herself with unique 60's inspired designs. That being said, her foremost attention is to fashion design, and hopes to host a final fashion show at the graduation of her 4 year course. Although Kayleen doesn't plan to make modeling her long term career, she certainly wants to take it as far as she can. Particularly keen on the accomplishments of Daria Werbowy and Gemma Ward, she would love to follow the footsteps of these well-known fashion models. Not to mention model high fashion designers the likes of Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen. At her most recent photo shoot with fashion photographer Renat Touichev, Kayleen describes the experience as creative, spontaneous and mysterious. Gracefully modelling an Australian designer's new line called 'Elegantly Scant', it really does bring out the natural and authentic feeling she exudes. Shooting at a Shagunessy mansion she particularly enjoyed the over sized diamonds used throughout the shoot. The most enjoyable aspect was the idealism of an elegant, bare and even magical shoot. She describes modeling as amazingly rewarding, but recognizes the stresses of such a hectic industry. In between her booked schedule she likes to indulge in an evening of bubble baths, and green tea. All the while making an effort to learn guitar, keep her sketchbook updated and of course keeping in shape with a Twinkie diet. She finds herself always on the go, and is the type of person to take every opportunity to better her skills professionally. Not likely to leave the scene any time soon, Kayleen plans to work on herself as a person, and develop further into a prosperous and successful women she undoubtedly already is. With visions of being her own boss, and traveling to New York and Paris, Vancouver can expect great things from this charming mixed beauty. Good luck Kayleen in all your future endeavors! Vancouver Fashion eZine will continue to watch you on your rise to stardom.
